Funny things

I can't believe I forgot to mention it! For those who haven't seen it, you must watch Triumph the Comic Insult Dog's interview of the Star Wars nerds (can be found here). It's back from when Episode 2 was about to be released in theaters. Now, anyone who's viewed it remembers the crazy guy in the green wizard's get-up. When I visited Ari and Joe in the city that Wednesday, I ran across this guy in midtown. He was sitting by a fountain talking to someone...I didn't notice if he had a filet 'o fish sandwich. It was quite a sighting. These little things make my days.

@ dojo last Saturday:

Matt: It sucks, I haven't been able to use my computer for a while now because of that worm.
Gene: Didn't you get the update to avoid that? People were talking about it for a while before it actually hit.
Matt: No, I was too busy playing Warcraft 3.
Gene: You...what...NO.
Matt: Yeah, but I've only started recently. Been playing Starcraft for years before that.

It all went downhill from there. We normally fight to a near stalemate at the dojo...I wonder if I can pwn him online.

After another fight night at Rich's last Friday, I'm gonna miss mooching offa him. Corn, here I come. Gene arrives to hunt your women. I will employ the secret tactics I learned at...ah...um...nevermind.

Missing

Wednesday I grabbed a train into the city to meet up with Joe and Ari for an extended lunch. The tab was taken care of by Deutsche Bank. We discussed many things, including Joe's inability to ever live at his parents' home again. My camera had come back from repairs the day before, so I did take a picture, but I'm too lazy to do anything about it right now. Bear with me, I had to reactivate Windows for the one billionth time yesterday.

This whole power outage thing was kind of odd for me (no, I didn't get hit by it) because I was in the city on Wednesday, the day before everything went to hell. I guess it was just sort of odd seeing everything going on through a third-person perspective this time. The last time New Yorkers pulled together for anything of significance was 9/11, and I was there as the day unfolded. This time, being reduced to a mere spectator as regular citizens tried to coordinate traffic at intersections, among countless other acts, made me miss the city.

Friday night was fight night at Rich's. The man seriously knows how to entertain guests. While viewing the fights on his rather large TV, I could pick from barbecue chips, regular chips, pretzels, Fritos, honey roasted nuts and more, all in nicely laid-out bowls, while downing beers (and initially a Gatorade after trying to teach his sons to fight better for about half an hour). I will very much miss this when I return to the farms of Pennsylvania. Sadly I've been informed that two more roommates will be joining us in our apartment, so Brian and I had to ditch our visions of each living across two bedrooms.

Ah, lamentations.

Buh-bye

Gone to Maryland, for those whom I haven't told and are looking for me. Be back Monday evening.

"lol suddenly gene has a tauren army"

So many things to cover...starting with relevent site news first. I have SSH access now, and I plan to use it. I may finally get this album thing done. Watchful eyes will notice that more and more material is being written in the AT journal section, however slowly. With that done, onto the giddy stuff.

I had a mentally draining evening yesterday. First, fighting at the dojo, where I tried some new stuff that paid off quite nicely. After coming home, Joe and Ari were miraculously online at the same time, so some 'crafting took place in the form of DotA. The first game fell apart quickly as people dropped out, but the second went on for an hour and two minutes. After some initial setbacks on tower losses, we persevered and won.

I was then tempted with a 3v3 game. We were pitted against level 11 players, who are in fact ranked 20th on the 3v3 ladder. We had faced them earlier in our Frozen Throne careers and lost, but we were ignorant no longer. As one can see here, they had one different member this team. Their other team is ranked #8, and they all have win percentages above 75%, so they knew what they were doing. There were some close calls on both sides, but eventually the hero assassinating, Mana Flaring, ward-stealing, unit-possessing side won. You can check the stats of the game from the Battle.net link above, and the replay can be found here.

In keeping with odd, notable events, most know that I find and share hot deals on various forums, but now my dad has achieved an accomplishment in that department as well. If you hit up Techbargains and scroll down to the August 4th deals (about a quarter of the way down), you'll see a deal for an Epson C62 printer, $39 with no rebates. The old man submitted that one, and anyone who needs a printer should definitely hit up BestBuy. The cartridges for those printers are about $20 each, and this one comes with color and black cartridges, meaning you essentially get the printer for free.
