Mango’s (Gene’s) Enhanced Journal

Herein lies the account of the trip Conan (Joe) and I took up in Maine along the Appalachian Trail in June of 2002. I call it an “enhanced” journal because this isn’t copied verbatim from the actual journal I kept while on the trail. I had to write that by hand, and after years of doing most/all of my writing via keyboard at 70+ wpm, scribbling lengthy entries with a pen was painful. I’m used to being able to get my thoughts down on the screen as quickly as they pop into my head. Thus, my actual journal was filled with sentence fragments and key phrases to help me remember what I wanted to write in full when the time came. My journal also did not have pictures to accompany the entries (go figure).

Olive links in the text lead to a pop-up window with a photo and caption (turning grey once visited). Be sure to close each window before attempting to go to another pop-up link: close window links will remain at the bottom of each window as a convenience and reminder. These pages are heavily Javascripted, so a browser capable of running them is necessary.

That being said, let the recollection of the adventure begin.

Note: You may find some red highlights in the text and be wondering as to their purpose. They are merely places where I intend to do something, but for whatever reason, haven't yet. Remember, this is still a heavy work-in-progress. Bookmark this page to visit it again when it has evolved. Last update here took place Thursday July 18, 2006.
